In modern times everyone does have flying cars, but the increase in xenocite prices has made most people go back to using normal cars, or even bikes. The lack of xenocite has also brought about a resurgence of an older technology for air transport: the blimp.
Modern medicine has become almost entirely mechanical. almost every disease can be cured with an injection of appropriately programmed nanobots. aids, cancer, and almost every other disease on the planet has been eradicated almost totally, except in Rodinia, where mechanical enhancments are considered blasphemy. There are new war viruses, however, which are made out of violent nanobots. These viruses can do anything from incapacitate to instantly kill an enemy soldier. these nanobot viruses can even affect robots, and are one of the most effective weapons on the modern battlefield.
as a result of the nanotech revolution, almost everyone on the planet is classified as a cyborg, because most people have at least one cybernetic muscle, bone, eye, ear, etc.
There are military issue cyborgs, however, who are outfitted with weaponized armor that links with their nanobot implants. These soldiers are not soulless battle machines, however, they do have mind modifications to dull their feelings of fear, hesitation, and their sense of pain.
Androids are used as both household servants and soulless soldiers. The robots are slower than normal people, but can take much more damage than humans. they also have better aim, can handle stronger weapons (such as mini nuke rays, which fry not only what they're being aimed at, but the user as well.). The androids with highest quality armor can only be destroyed from within by nanobots. Androids are the tanks of the modern battlefield. Androids range in appearance from totally human looking to hulking battle monsters. Most androids have AI similar to 21st century videogame enemies, but they can range from basic, repetitve one track minds to the rare androids with minds indestinguishable from humans. Some very rich people even have their minds transferred to androids when they die, which is very good indication of how close to humans they can get.
Biomutations also affect most animals and bugs, but micro-organisms are totally unaffected. Mutations in animals can be as small as different colored skin and an increase/decrease in size, or as large as a full blown change of species. Many mythical monsters have become real from mutations including, but not limited to, bigfoots, vampires, werewolves, thunderbirds, and various other mythical beasts. Some, like werewolves and vampires, mutated from humans, but most were Mutations of animals. likewise, some have been accepted into society as either pets or, in the case of vampires and werewolves, full citzens (under the condition, of course, that they don't bite anyone and stay inside at night, especially on full moons.). Various monsters unheard of in all of history have also mutated from bugs, lizards, fish, and mammals.
Biomutations and advances in technology have also led to the first practical military application of an otaku's wet dream: battle mecha. Once thought two complex to be handled by normal humans, Mechs were too impractical for use on the battlefield. But the emergence of psionic mutants has led to a streamlining of old technology. Psionic mutants can use every function of a mech as though they were part of the mech as opposed to just piloting it, thanks to new amplifier connectors that link the psionic mind directly to the main CPU of the mech. And a mutant's psychokinetic powers are amplified by the devices as well, allowing the hulking mecha to fly based purely on telekinetic lift.
